This year Murrayfield Wanderers FC have started a School Of Rugby program in both, Tynecastle High School and Wester Hailes Education Centre for S2 students.
This allows a group of students (boys and girls) to take part in a rugby session during one of their curricular periods of P.E a week.
The program has be running fantastically well and the students involved have shown huge improvements in their rugby skills. We run after schools sessions at Tynecastle (on a Wednesday) and WHEC (on a Tuesday). Alongside this, we have also ran conditioning sessions, for the school of rugby students, on a Friday after school at Tynecastle high School.
Not only does the program look at rugby, we also will be looking at nutrition, Positive Coaching Scotland (PCS), media studies and Video analysis.
Furthermore, the program looks to develop the students self confidence and leadership skills both on the field and off the field.
This Friday will see the schools take part in a rugby tournament at Murrayfield for the first time this year. Both schools will be wearing the Wandies strip and it will be fantastic to see the progression they have made since the start of the School of Rugby Program.
